Membership: Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts (IAVA); National Association for Visual Artists (NAVA); Red Point Artists; Subud International Cultural Association (SICA)

 Other art related and community activities that Alena has been involved in are: 

  • ArtWays: Founded 2022. Alena is co-creator and facilitator of ArtWays with Dr. Friederike Krishnabhakdi-Vasilakis. ArtWays has two streams: ArtWays for Creative Skills (teaching creativity and art skills); and ArtWays for Wholeness (a holistic program that enhances wellbeing and develops creative skills with a focus on relaxation, free line drawing (doodling) and pattern drawing. ArtWays holds retreats and workshops and has produced six books to date. ArtWays sees one of its roles as a Creative Intervention to support mental health. ArtWays has held workshops with Illawarra Shoalhaven Area Health District, for healthcare staff and consumers. They collaborated on a book: “Spiralling Kindness: Seeding Patterns of Wellbeing: ArtWays for Healthcare” 2023. 

  • IAVA: Founded 2009. Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts. Co-founder of a group of contemporary professional artists in the Illawarra region, now with membership of 52. IAVA was created to cultivate and promote contemporary visual art and artists in the Illawarra region. IAVA provides members with group exhibitions, social networking and professional mentoring. 

  • SICA (Subud International Cultural Association) and its cultural activities nationally and internationally (selector for the World Subud Congress 2018 art exhibition in Freiburg, Germany). Subud is a spiritual organisation which accepts members from diverse backgrounds and denominations. 

  • Coordinator 2016 exhibition/workshops event: insight: an exploration of the spiritual in art; 2017 exhibition/performance/workshops event: Symphony: Celebrating spiritual diversity in art and culture; 2018 exhibition/workshops event: Inspired Health exhibition and workshops, a collaboration between creatives and health professionals.
