journey Series/intimate views of nature
2011 – 2020

The catalyst for the journey series of paintings was a 7 months camping trip by motorcycle around mainland Australia in 2009. Since creating the journey paintings I continued to explore the theme from the perspectives of other journeys and my life at home. This could be described as intimate views of nature.

Colours, patterns and designs of nature inspire inquiry into mysteries of our universe and of the fractal nature of growth. I am intrigued by the diversity of life all around me: how it adapts to the environment, interacts, and by the beauty and efficiency of its design. I feel the vitality of the living heart of the earth and its inhabitants. Space, light and shadow and glimmers of unexpected detail are imprinted in my memory.

Space around a plant defines it as much as its shape does. Similarly, two objects side by side accentuate each other’s character. They have a presence, a life force, and I feel that we are all connected. I attempt to convey some of this experience which I feel every day when I am not too busy or distracted to notice.
